Borrando géneros desde la fotografía

Resumen: Cientos de fotografías componen las páginas del libro Borrando géneros, de la artista puertorriqueña Haydée Yordán. Su reciente Mención Honorífica del International Photography Awards (2015) es el reconocimiento a una ingeniosa mirada al futuro del género humano, la cual se combinan el arte, la ciencia y una reflexión pertinente sobre la sexualidad y el género.

Abstract: Borrando géneros [Erasing Genders], by Haydée Yordán, is a photo book with hundreds of photographs by this Puerto Rican artist. Her recent Honorable Mention in the International Photography Awards (2015) gives recognition a clever look at the future of humankind, combining art, science, and a pertinent reflection on sexuality and gender.

Colonial Comfort: una historia con muchos autores

Resumen: Colonial Comfort es una exhibición colectiva en la que su curadora, Lisa Ladner, abre un debate sobre las contradicciones y las ironías presentes en la realidad del actual Caribe, concretamente Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes. Dieciocho propuestas fotográficas integran la muestra, abierta hasta octubre en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico.

Abstract: Colonial Comfort is a collective exhibition whose curator, Lisa Ladner, opens a debate on the contradictions and ironies that are present in the Caribbean’s current reality, specifically in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Eighteen photographic proposals make up the exhibition, which will be open until October at the Museo de Arte Comtemporáneo de Puerto Rico.

Sin arte ni amor, no habría olvido ni recuerdos

Resumen: Elizam Escobar presenta en Crescendo un conjunto de fotografías tomadas junto a su hijo en los salones de visitas de diferentes prisiones en las que pasó veinte años de su vida. La reunión de estas imágenes, junto a óleos e instalaciones del artista, se traducen en un ejercicio complejo que provoca una profunda reflexión sobre la vida y sobre el paso del tiempo.

Abstract: In Crescendo, Elizam Escobar presents a set of photographs taken of himself next to his son, in the visiting rooms of different prisons where he spent twenty years of his life. The gathering of these images, together with oil paintings and installations by the artist, is a complex exercise that provokes a deep reflection on life and the passage of time.

Resumen: El fotógrafo puertorriqueño Pedro L. San Miguel exhibe en la Galería Guatíbiri un conjunto de fotografías, principalmente retratos y paisajes de México, las cuales configuran una muestra de un gran archivo acumulado de vivencias. 

Abstract: The Puerto Rican photographer Pedro L. San Miguel exhibits a set of photographs in the Guatíbiri Gallery. These photographs mainly consist of portraits and landscapes of Mexico, which make up a sample of an archive of accumulated experiences. 

Rompecabezas VI

Resumen: Rompecabezas vuelve a ser el título de la exposición anual de la facultad de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico, que este año cumple su sexta edición. Esta conjugación de piezas es fruto de la actividad continua y de las inquietudes artísticas de sus profesores, en su voluntad de compartir y contrastar sus creaciones con el estudiantado.

Abstract: Rompecabezas (Puzzle) is again the title of the annual faculty exhibition at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, which this year celebrates its sixth edition. This combination of artworks is the result of the continuous activity and artistic concerns of the faculty, in their will to share and contrast their creations with the students.

Abstract: The Puerto Rican photographer Pedro L. San Miguel exhibits a set of photographs in the Guatíbiri Gallery. These photographs mainly consist of portraits and landscapes of Mexico, which make up a sample of an archive of accumulated experiences.

Abstract: The Arctic landscape is the protagonist of the exhibition Drawn Into the Light, created by artists Osvaldo Budet and Shonah Trescott. The contact of these creators with the natural life of the Arctic Circle is presented as an invitation to reflect on climate change and on the relationship between human beings and nature.

El centenario de Jack Delano

Resumen: El centenario del nacimiento del artista Jack Delano se celebra en una exposición retrospectiva en el Museo de Arte de Ponce, la cual incluye una amplia diversidad de medios practicados por el artista y por su esposa a lo largo de las décadas en las que vivieron en Puerto Rico.

Abstract: The centenary of artist Jack Delano´s birth is celebrated in a retrospective exhibition at the Museo de Arte de Ponce, including a wide variety of art practiced by the artist and his wife throughout the decades in which they lived in Puerto Rico.

Complicidad y empatía

Resumen: Área: Lugar de Proyectos presenta tres exhibiciones, correspondientes a la obra de las artistas Verónica Rivera, Tania Monclova y Mónica Félix, y con la curaduría de Anna Astor Blanco. No se trataba de una oportunidad aislada, sino de un intento de continuar trabajando en equipo para seguir abriendo puertas a mujeres artistas, curadoras y gestoras culturales.

Abstract: Área: Lugar de Proyectos presents three exhibitions, corresponding to the works of the artists Verónica Rivera, Tania Monclova y Mónica Felix, and curated by Anna Astor Blanco. This was not an isolated opportunity, but an attempt to continue working as a team to keep openning doors to female artists, curators and cultural managers.

El trazo del proceso en la pintura de Fernando Villena

Resumen: Proyecto en proceso es el título que el artista vasco Fernando Villena eligió para describir la obra producto de una residencia artística desarrollada en Área: Lugar de Proyectos.Tomando como referencia visual de sus obras el entorno natural que le rodea, Villena expone ante el público su obra aún en proceso de elaboración, una determinación que esconde tanto riesgo como valentía.

Abstract: Proyecto en proceso [Project in Process] is the title that the Basque artist Fernando Villena chose to describe his work, product of an art residency in Área: Lugar de Proyectos. Taking the natural enviroment that surrounds him as his visual reference, Villena shows his work, still in progress, a determination that is both risky and courageous.

PISO y MAPA

Resumen: Un Taller Vivo en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico da pie a este análisis sobre la trayectoria de PISO Proyecto desde su nacimiento en 2012. Su fundadora, la artista Noemí Segarra, lo concibió como un espacio movible en el que se trabaja en la improvisación y las prácticas artísticas del cuerpo.

Abstract: A Living Workshop at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico gives rise to this analysis of the trajectory of PISO Project from their birth in 2012. Their founder, the artist Noemí Segarra, concieved it as a mobile space in which one works on improvisation and the artistic practices of the body.

Uno por dos en Ponce

Resumen: En marzo de 2014, en el marco de las llamadas Noches de Galerías de Ponce, se inauguraron diferentes exhibiciones, de las que aquí se destacan dos: una con los trabajos Miguel Conesa, en la Sala de Arte Contemporáneo de la Casa Zapater, y otra de Myriam Beauchamp, en la Galería Epifanio Irizarry de la Escuela de Bellas Artes.

Abstract: In March 2014, in the framework of the so-called Ponce Gallery Nights, different exhibitions were inaugurated, of which two stand out here: one with the works of Miguel Conesa, at the. Hall of Contemporary Art in Casa Zapater, and the other by Myriam Beauchamp, at the Gallerry Epifanio Irizarry in the School of Fine Arts.

Trópicos en el 20-20

Resumen: El espacio de exhibiciones 20-20, situado en la Calle Cerra (en Santurce), presentó la exhibición colectiva que llevaba como título Tropicaleo: una provocación caribeña. La muestra reta, de manera incisiva y cínica, el cliché del paraíso tropical y muestra las contradicciones que supone vivir en un Caribe paradisiaco.

Abstract: The exhibition space 20-20, situated at Cerra Street (in Santurce), presented the colective exhibition titled Tropicaleo: una provocación caribeña [Tropicaleo: a caribbean provocartion]. The show challenges, in an incisive and cynic manner, the clichè of tropical paradise and presents the contradictions that involve living in a Caribbean paradise.

…y donde hay negocio, hay política también

Resumen: Entre el 5 de abril al 3 de mayo se encuentra disponible en la Galería Agustina Ferreyra la exhibición colectiva Donde hay protesta, hay negocio, curada por Marina Reyes Franco, en la que se reúnen piezas de seis artistsa latinoamericnaos: Ricardo Alcaide, Gala Berger, Carolina Caycedo, Marcelo Cidade, Livia Corona y Guillermo E. Rodríguez.

Abstract: Donde hay protesta, hay negocio, curated by Marina Reyes Franco, opened at Galería Agustina Ferreyra, from April 5th to May 3rd 2014. The exhibition brings together artworks by these Latin American artists: Ricardo Alcaide, Gala Berger, Carolina Caycedo, Marcelo Cidade, Livia Corona and Guillermo E. Rodriguez.

Blancus

Resumen: Blancus es la reciente propuesta artística del fotógrafo Herminio Rodríguez, que se presentó en una exhibición como parte de la agenda del espacio Art Lab. En estas imágenes, el artista invita a reflexionar al espectador, retándole a encontrar formas ocultas en el blanco cegador que inunda las obras.

Abstract: Blancus is the recent artistic proposal from the photographer Herminio Rodríguez, which presented as an exhibition of the Art Lab space’s agenda. In these images, the artist invites the spectator to reflect, challenging them to find hidden figures in the blinding white that floods the images.

Coraje y desobediencia: artistas puertorriqueñas en el Festival Miradas de Mujeres

Resumen: Dos artistas puertorriqueñas, Carmen Mojica y Nora Quintero, participan junto a otras creadoras latinoamericanas y valencianas en el Festival Miradas de Mujeres 2014, organizado por la asociación Mujeres en las Artes Visuales en España. El festival tiene como objetivo visibilizar el trabajo creativo de mujeres artistas y de reflexionar sobre sus particulares miradas.

Abstract: Two Puerto Rican artists, Carmen Mojica and Nora Quintero, participate together with other Latin American and Valencian female creators in the Festival Miradas de Mujeres 2014 [Women’s Gazes Festival], organized by the association of Women in the Visual Arts in Spain. The festival aims to make visible the creative work of women artists and to reflect upon their particular views.
