In its 72 years, the Archaeological Research Center (Centro de Investigaciones Arqueólogicas) has consistently carried out its mission of studying and defending Puerto Rico’s Indigenous and historical cultural heritage. It is because of the efforts devoted to this significant project, initially led by Dr. Ricardo Alegría and later by Dr. Chanlatte Baik, that we have been able to assemble the largest and most important archaeological collection in the Caribbean.

Resumen: La exposición permanente del Museo Arqueológico de Tibes tuvo una profunda transformación en 1989. De una muestra de carácter objetual se pasó a otra con un mayor énfasis conceptual, cuyos principales objetivos consistieron en ofrecer tanto un contexto adecuado a las piezas expuestas como una necesaria conexión entre pasado y presente. Con ello, se perseguía la identificación del puertorriqueño actual con sus antepasados indígenas a través de una serie de actividades y acciones cotidianas comunes, empleando diversos recursos museográficos que ayudaran a sus visitantes a comprender el verdadero alcance de esos nexos. Casi tres décadas después, su “metadiscurso” de afirmación nacional mantiene su vigencia.
Abstaract: The permanent exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Tibes underwent a profound transformation in 1989. From an object-based exhibition, it moved to another with a greater conceptual emphasis, the main objectives of which were to offer both an adequate context to the exhibited pieces and a necessary connection between past and present. With this transformation, the identification of the present Puerto Rican people with indigenous ancestors was intended through a series of activities and common daily actions, using various museum resources that help visitors to understand the true scope of these inks. Almost three decades later, this “meta-discourse” of national affirmation remains in force.
Resumen: La exhibición Arqueología Profética, resultado de diez años de producción artística de Cecilio Colón Guzmán, se presentó en el Museo de Arte de Bayamón en 2014. En ella, el artista invita al espectador a realizar un ejercicio de instrospección, a la vez que emplea reiteradamente la iconografía de la cruz en sus obras.
Abstract: The exhibition Arquelogía Profética [Profetic Architecture], result of ten years of artistic production by Cecilio Colón Guzmán, was presented at the Bayamón Museum of Art in 2014, In it, the artist invites de spectator to make an introspection exercide, as he repeatedly uses the iconography of the cross in his art works.
Resumen: Guaca: visita al pasado indígena de Puerto Rico es una exhibición fruto de la colaboración entre el Centro de Investigaciones Arqueológicas y el Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte, en saludo al 25° Congreso Internacional de Arqueología del Caribe, que presenta una selección de piezas de ambas instituciones con un fin didáctico.
Abstract: Guaca: A Visit to Puerto Rico’s Indigenous Past (Guaca: visita al pasado indígena de Puerto Rico) is an exhibition created in collaboration between the Center for Archaeological Research and the Museum of History, Anthropology and Art, in celebration of the 25th International Congress of Caribbean Archaeology, which presents a selection of pieces from both institutions, for educational purposes.
