Undergraduate Admissions
Basic Requirements for Admission:
Admission applications for the College of Humanities from University of Puerto Rico students (major change or transfer from another UPR systems unit) are handled by the Registrar’s Office. Students from other universities should send their applications to the Admissions Office.
To be admitted into the English Department programs, a student should meet all the admission requirements of the Río Piedras Campus, the College of Humanities and the Department.
Other requirements for transfer students are as follows:
Students from:
- The College of General Studies: Students should have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours in General Studies with a GPA of at least 2.0. It is necessary that three of the courses be first year English, first year Spanish and llUMA 3101-3102.
- Other colleges of the Rio Piedras Campus: They must have the previous requirements and have at least a 1.7 GPA at the end of their second year and 1.8 GPA at the end of their third year. We strongly urge students to see the academic advisor of the Department before requesting a reclassification.
- Other UPR campuses and units: In addition to the four basic courses and the established GPA (see above), a student must have completed at least 48 credit hours before transferring to the Río Piedras Campus. If the student comes from a unit that does not offer a complete second year program, only 30 credit hours will be required for his/her transfer.
- Other universities & international students: In addition to the four basic courses or their equivalent, students should have completed at least 45 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or 60 credit hours with a 2.0 GPA.
