Resumen: <\/b>En la exhibicio\u0301n To Be…, la artista Lilliam Nieves representa su cuerpo en piezas de video arte y emplea la interseccio\u0301n de palabras en sus dibujos, con el propo\u0301sito de lanzar una cri\u0301tica sociocultural sobre asuntos como la dia\u0301sopra puertorriquen\u0303a y sus razones de ser, o no ser. Para ello, emplea modelos de belleza que tratan de \u201cblanquear\u201d y \u201cadelgazar\u201d el cuerpo con rutinas de asociacio\u0301n que, finalmente, no coinciden con su propia identidad, dando como resultado un disfraz impuesto que no alcanza el objetivo de producir felicidad.<\/span><\/p>\n

Abstract:<\/b> In the exhibition To Be…, artist Lilliam Nieves represents her body in video artworks, using the intersection of words in her drawings, with the purpose of making a socio-cultural critique on issues such as the Puerto Rican diaspora and their reasons to be, or not to be. In order to do this, she uses beauty models that try to \u201cwhiten\u201d and \u201cslim down\u201d the body with routines of association that, in the end, do not match their own identity, resulting in a imposed mask that does not reach the goal of producing happiness.<\/span><\/p>\n
