He graduated from universities in the United Kingdom and the United States. His PhD is from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Michael Sharp has taught in Scotland, Greece, Portugal, and Nigeria as well as Binghamton University, Harvard University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been a Teaching Fellow at the International School of Theory in the Humanities at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. Trained as a Romanticist, Michael Sharp teaches in both the MA and the Caribbean Studies PhD programs. His research focuses on the literature of both Anglophone Africa and the Caribbean Diaspora.
