Trained at McGill University (Canada), the Universit\u00e9 Paris 7 Denis-Diderot&nbsp;(France), the Universit\u00e4t des Saarlandes (Germany) and the University of Pittsburgh (USA), he conducted fieldwork in Moselle (France), where he studied French-German language contact, and more recently in New York City where he investigated the acquisition of English phonetics and phonology by Puerto Rican and Dominican immigrants.
