The network is currently inactive but was created with the purpose of focusing on an exchange of research on both the large and small Anglophone Caribbean islands, primarily those which were or are colonies of Britain (see Caribbean Folk Bibliography link on this page). In this network, culture was defined in its broadest sense and included history, language, literature, folklore, festivals, popular dramatic performances, dance and music, games, professional theater, and cinema. The network hoped to facilitate the development of an Encyclopedia of Caribbean Island Culture as well as to sponsor workshops which would bring together cultural practitioners and academics for roundtable discussions of culture in the Anglophone Caribbean. While it was active, it was one of the sponsors of the ongoing Islands in Between Conference: Language, Literature & Cultures of the Eastern Caribbean. The network was partially funded by the Proyecto Atlantea.
